BasikolTM For Healthy Hearts

What Is It For?

Basikol helps to reduce blood cholesterol and maintain a healthy heart.

What is in it?
Each Basikol® capsule contains 200mg of natural plant-derived phytosterols and 2.74mg of d-alphatocopherol acetate (3.72 IU). When used according to directions, Basikol® Capsules will assist with managing the daily in-take of dietary cholesterol. Plant sterols are also used in cholesterol lowering margarines however the availability of plant sterols in Basikol® Capsules avoids the in-take of margarine.

Special Features And Benifits

Basikol (phytosterol) has cholesterol lowering properties recognised by the US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and which have been the subject of numerous scientific studies. Increasing data suggests that including a daily intake of 0.8g of natural plant sterols, combined with a diet low in saturated fats and cholesterol, may lead to a significant reduction in total cholesterol and LDL (bad) cholesterol levels in the blood.

The Vitamin E in Basikol is known for its antioxidant properties, especially in relation to lipids.

Precautions, Contraindications And Side Effects

No statistically significant side effects have been recorded during the decades of studies devoted to the effects of phytosterols.

Vitamins can only be of assistance if the dietary vitamin intake is inadequate.
Use only as directed. Always read the label. If symptoms persist consult your healthcare practitioner.

Generally Basikol is not indicated for use with children however few if any side effects have been reported during decades of studies devoted to the effects of plant sterols.

Directions For Use

The normal dosage is 2 capsules of Basikol twice daily with meals. If 3 heavy meals are eaten per day, 2 capsules may be taken with each meal.

What is Cholesterol?
Cholesterol is a soft, waxy substance found among the lipids (fats) in the bloodstream and in body cells. It is an important part of a healthy body as it is used by the body to form cell membranes, some hormones and other needed tissue. However excess cholesterol is undesirable and when combined with other dietary and lifestyle factors cholesterol can build up in blood vessels (including the coronary artery which supplies blood to the heart muscle). Keeping these vessels open and flexible is clearly important for normal heart function. Consequently, keeping blood cholesterol levels within the normal range is an important part of maintaining a healthy heart and blood vessels.

Cholesterol and other fats are transported in the bloodstream to and from the cells of the body by special carriers called lipoproteins. There are several kinds, but the ones most talked about and the ones that people should be concerned with is the LDL (low density lipoprotein) cholesterol, "bad" fat and the HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol, the "good" fat. Generally, LDLCholesterol transports cholesterol to the cells while HDL-Cholesterol takes it away for elimination.

We do need some cholesterol for optimal health, but it is a fine line between having the right amount of cholesterol necessary for body processes and cholesterol levels that put us at risk.

How do I maintain healthy blood cholesterol levels?
To keep cholesterol levels in a normal range, limit the intake of foods rich in saturated fat and trans-fatty acids. Food from plants such as fruits and vegetables are good because they don't contain cholesterol. Also, eating fish and flax oil is excellent as both fish and flax is an ideal source of omega-3 fatty-acids that are important for a healthy heart.
