Weight loss, diets, health farms, celery sticks and calorie counting - words to make nearly anyone get sweaty palms, stressed and start anxiety attacks.

Here, we will attempt to provide a balanced and level headed view on how to lose those excess kilos, that have sneaked on over the years.

Forget all those glossy and re-touched magazine adds, the "before and after" shots, high budget TV promotions and expensive endorsements. In our experience, they work 100% of the time, in reducing........ the size of your wallet! 

If you are looking for a quick easy way to lose weight - read no further.

But if you are prepared to get serious, and understand that it will be a slow gradual process, the same slow process that saw you increase weight,  the following information might just do the trick.

There are many things you can do to lose weight quickly (mostly water loss) but you will put the weight back on, and usually more (your body is smart - it will "bank" more fat just in case you try to starve it again!), days, weeks or months later.

If you are serious about losing weight, unless you are one of the very few who actually have a medical condition that causes the weight gain (or stops excess being burnt off) you are overweight because of your lifestyle. To lose weight you must first be prepared to change how you live!

We believe very strongly in moderation. Weight loss is not rocket science. Small changes in your day to day habits, will over time, reduce your weight. The weight loss puzzle is really quite simple in its most basic form - you must use up more fuel than you take on!

This can only be done in one of two ways: reduce your fuel intake, or increase the burning! This is where supplements and weight loss products can assist. They can help you to curb cravings, burn fuel more efficiently and stop you filling up on junk food.

  • moderate exercise (a walk around the block will do!)

Educate Yourself

Might sound silly, but you need to learn what makes your body store fat, why it is hard to shift, and how you can reverse this situation. This information will be your road map to the success you are looking for. Once you understand why the weight stacks on, and how you can burn it up, everything else will seem easy. The weight really will feel lifted from your shoulders - and everywhere else!

The best information we have ever read on weight loss is Dr. Sandra Cabot's book "Can’t Lose Weight? You could have Syndrome X" .

Clean Up You Body

Unless you digestive system and liver are in good condition, it is going to be a very difficult process for you to start losing your excess weight. If you are serious about your health and your desire to lose that weight, you need to detox! The good news is that you don't need to check into some health retreat and live on beet juice and celery sticks for a week or two!

Now the bad news - a good detox will make you feel terrible for the first couple of days. All that excess weight also means that you have built up quite a collection of toxins in your system - over many many years. As you start to flush it all away, you are going to wonder if it is all worth it. Stick with it - after a few days you will start to feel better than you have for a long time, and as a bonus, you will probably start to lose that excess weight. Once you have completed your clean-up (10-14 days) you are well on your way to your goal. It is also a really good idea to use this detox time to kick your sugar habit, if you have one. We advise a detox every six to eight months to maintain optimum health.

Clean Up Your Diet

In her excellent book, Dr. Cabot explains in very simple terms what causes "Syndrome X" - the consumption of excessive amounts of simple carbohydrates and hydrogenated vegetable oils. This causes excess production of the hormone insulin. Your body then becomes resistant to the effects of insulin, and compensates by producing even more insulin to stabilise blood sugar levels.

High levels of insulin causes:

  • carbohydrates to be converted into body fat
  • excessive hunger for carbohydrates and sugary foods
  • suppression of the fat burning hormone glucagon
This book reveals some surprising facts about Syndrome X and weight loss generally.
  • you can get very fat and yet never eat any fat!
  • you can go on a starvation low-fat diet and never lose any weight!
  • eating fat and protein can help you lose weight!
  • oils ain’t oils!
  • a calorie is not a calorie!

As you learn more, you will understand that "Low Fat" labels usually mean "high sugar", which is often worse than having the fat to start with! 

Remember "moderation"? If you need to use oil use olive oil, avoid vegetable oils, margarine and any other trendy spread, no matter what the claims may be. If you want or need butter - use it....in moderation!

Try to avoid the "whites" - white flour, rice, pasta, breads etc. Simple carbohydrates like these, as well as snack foods full of hidden carbs and fats are probably responsible for more weight gain than anything else. Watch out for packaged juices and other sugar loaded drinks too. Excess sugars and simple carbs get converted into body fats. They will increase your triglyceride levels dramatically, and boost your waistline. Avoid processed foods like the plague. The more natural your diet, the better off you will be.

Instead, use wholegrain breads, cereals, raw sugars or even better, honey. Get a good quality Celtic sea salt and avoid packaged refined salts. Real natural sea salt is actually good for you, and loaded with minerals.

Moderate Exercise!

I know, most of you are saying "Yuk" or similar. We are not talking New York Marathon here. Take your dog/cat/kid/partner for a walk; ride a bike; go for a swim; join in with the TV aerobics in the morning; go dancing - whatever it takes - if you don't move around a bit and get your engine working, nothing anyone can say or do will help you to achieve you goal, but start a moderate clean up routine with a little bit of exercise, and before you know it, your clothes will start to fit better, you will feel rested in the morning and as you start to see the results, your motivation will amaze you!

Just remember:  

Burn more fuel than you put in your tank = WEIGHT LOSS!

Burn less fuel than you put in your tank = WEIGHT GAIN!

It is that simple!  (in 99% of cases)
