WHAT ARE FREE RADICALS?

In simple terms, we can define free radicals as constituents of molecules of substances that can find their way into the bloodstream. The body can normally cope with low levels of free radicals. They can be created in the body by exposure to;
Smoking, inhalation of toxic atmosphere pollutants, processed unsaturated oils (especially rancid ones),
constipation, stress, sodium nitrate (a food preservative), chlorine, exposure to X-rays and some commonly used medications.

Imagine an apple when sliced and left to stand. It turns brown as oxygen in the air attacks and damages the cells of the apple. Certain compounds of oxygen exert a similar effect on the cells of the body. These are free radicals.

THE IMPORTANT ROLE OF ANTIOXIDANTS

Science has identified a vast array of natural substances that work to balance unwanted guests in the body. The basis of dietary health care is in allowing these substances into the body to do their work and in avoiding other unnecessary substances.
