Q: Ecologists say that if you mess up krill, you’ll mess up the whole Antarctic ecosystem. Are you concerned about messing up the Antarctic – including all the whales, penguins and sea birds that live down there – just so you can make a few bucks here in Australia selling oil?

We understand as well as anyone that krill are absolutely essential to the Antarctic marine ecosystem. Krill harvesting however, is highly regulated by international conventions that seek to protect sustainable krill stocks in the future. We must also keep this issue in context. The World Health Organization estimates that the total quantity of krill on the planet exceeds 500 million tons. Approximately 110,000 tons of krill are harvested every year, or about less than one-half of 0.1% of the existing resources.

Q: Do we really have to harvest and market krill when the oceans are full of other kinds of fish that are rich in fish oil?
